The definition of commitment relates explicitly to one’s OBLIGATION. Your commitment could be to being on the PTA board, to Sunday school teaching, to your full-time job, or even parenting! So what’s the difference between that and dedication? Isn’t that the same thing? Not at all.
Dedication is about one’s PASSION in the performance of the obligation. It’s the driver between the start and the end that keeps you going. It’s what gets you out of bed in the morning, or keeps you fueled at night, in the pursuit of your goals. If your “Why” doesn’t compel you, it won’t move you and it will allow for excuses every time your commitment comes to mind. But when you have a passion to fuel your reason, your commitment is no longer an “obligation”. It becomes a step or a pass through or a necessary way to get to where you want to go or who you want to become.
The egg comes from the dedication of the hen. The fruits of our labor come from the dedication to work hard and be persistent. Dedication is an unwavering commitment to get to your goal or destination. It’s the passion WITHIN that drives you to keep going and stick to your commitment.
