HIIT Workout with Kids

When you are home with your kids or time is limited, it's hard to get traditional workouts in but that doesn't mean you can't at all! Kids need activity too (which also helps with naps) so I put the two together and have a quick and easy way to everyone get what they want. This is just 1 of the ways I workout with my kids.

Grab your kids and meet up in the basement, on the driveway or in the backyard and complete as many challenges as you can for a minute each until everyone is tired. No equipment necessary! Just grab a timer and do these exercises for 30 to 60 seconds each.

  • Frog Jumps: This is a fun way to do a squat jump. Push your hips back, keep your chest up and frog hop your way around the room. This combines leg strengthening with agility and cardio.

  • Bear Crawl: Bottoms up and hands on the floor. With relatively straight legs crawl around activating arm, shoulder and abs muscles.

  • Gorilla Shuffle: This is a low lateral movement that activates the leg muscles. Shift side to side around staying low enough to be able to drag your arms. Feel free to beat your chest.

  • Starburst Jump: This uses ALL the muscle groups to blast into a star fish shape. It works out and inner muscles and it's just plan fun!

  • Cheetah Run: This is another cardio-booster. It can be done on so many different levels and different speeds so all ages and mobility levels can benefit from it. Speed and agility is the main goal here.

  • Crab Crawl: Using your arms and legs crawl backwards around your exercise area. Make sure to keep your butt up which also keeps your abs engaged. Add some difficulty by touching opposite arms and legs over top. Think of it as a new sit-up.

  • Elephant Stomp: Bigger is better with this workout. The opposition of your arms and legs creates core engagement. Power through the top with your arms and lift those knees like you mean it.
